Artworks and Details:
In 2025 our Arts and Heritage Officer has worked in five local communities to complete their final artistic responses, celebrating their individual heritage stories, and we want to share with you all the amazing work that the community and artists have made this year! Check out the fantastic projects and participants that we worked with below:
1. One In A Million - Bus Exhibition: With Artist Sian Atkison.
The youth group 'One In A Million' worked closely with artist Sian Atkinson to make some fantastic artwork including a special installation of the iconic 'One In A Million' minibus, an interactive installation which allowed participants to step onto the bus full of art.
2. 'The Secret Life of Parkwood' - Trail Map.
This co-created piece was an illustrative trail map of a local woodland, combining contemporary memories from school children and families from Parkwood Primary School, with the in-depth knowledge of the woods from the volunteer group: Friends of Parkwood, who look after the space. This supports the volunteer group to increase engagement with young people and families, gives children safe and positive experiences of their local green space, and provides a physical asset for the community to use as they want. Collaborative project with Friends of Parkwood, Word Up North, Photo Hub North, Bradford Council Neighbourhoods team, and commissioned artist Nicola Storr.
3. Highfield Community Association Men's Group - Decorative Tablecloth.
The Men's group at the Highfield Community Association with artist Zareena Bano created a decorative tablecloth inspired by Islamic geometric patterns and tessellations, and celebrated the weekly coming together of this community group for meals provided by the Highfield Centre.
4. Highfield Community Associations Women's Group - Mohila's Street Delight's Recipe Booklet.
The group worked together with Keighley Creative’s Arts and Heritage Officer Lauren, to share their favourite street foods from Bangladesh, stories, images and show you how to make them yourselves at home, it’s a celebration of flavour, heritage, and community. English and Bengali text provided in the booklet.
5. The Story Huddlers-Tales - The K-Town Cart.
Our K-Town Cart was back out this summer for a programme of outdoor pop-up immersive theatre performances, co-produced by Beccy Durham of Falling Stars Theatre Company. The Story Huddlers would travel across local parks and streets in Keighley, engaging with the general public and collecting their stories- what do they like about their area, what are the best places to visit in Keighley, who are some important community champions they want to shout out about? They would then on the same day perform those stories back to the audience in a theatre show; to show how important it is to celebrate current heritage stories! The stories were also collected in a story book made by artist Nicola Storr!
Thank-you to everyone who has been a part of these community projects, from the participants to the funders, and all the brilliant community outreach staff at Keighley Creative. It has been a fantastic 2025 full of creativity, community, and collaboration. We look forward to doing more in 2026!
